Palestinian killed after allegedly stabbing soldier in southern Israel

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian suspect was shot and killed after allegedly stabbing an Israeli soldier and stealing his gun in Kiryat Gat in southern Israel, an Israeli police spokesperson told Ma'an.

Micky Rosenfeld told Ma'an that an Israeli soldier was injured after he was "stabbed by a suspect."

The suspect -- identified as Amjad Hatem al-Jundi, 20 -- grabbed the soldier's gun and fled the area into a nearby building, Rosenfeld said. Officials in the area at the time closed in on the building and chased the suspect down before he was " identified, shot, and killed on the scene," he added.

He added the incident was currently under investigation as a "terror attack."

Hours earlier, an Israeli civilian shot and injured a Palestinian woman in the Old City of occupied East Jerusalem after she allegedly tried to stab him.

Rosenfeld said that the armed Israeli man, 35, shot the woman, 18, from close range after she tried to attack him with a knife, referring to the woman as a "terrorist."

Medical sources told Ma'an the teen sustained serious injuries.

Ongoing escalation

The alleged stabbings inside of Israel came shortly after an Israeli settler was reportedly attacked and injured by two Palestinians in her car Wednesday morning near the Teqoa settlement in the occupied West Bank.

The two Palestinians, aged 18, were shot and injured by Israeli forces following the attack, locals said.

Tensions have been high between Palestinians and Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, where Palestinian residents continue attempts to prevent settler attacks in their towns and villages.

Two Israeli settlers were shot and killed last week by alleged Palestinian gunmen in the northern West Bank, spurring ongoing reprisal attacks by Israeli settlers.

The couples’ death has also brought widespread Israeli raids and detentions to Palestinian towns across the West Bank, and two Palestinians, aged 13 and 18, have been shot dead during clashes.

In occupied East Jerusalem, meanwhile, two Israelis were killed in an alleged stabbing attack last week.

The Palestinian attacker was shot dead on scene, and another Palestinian was shot hours later after allegedly stabbing an Israeli.

The Old City has been sealed to Palestinians since, after Israeli police passed an order to prevent entry to all expect Israeli Jews, tourists, and Palestinian residents and shop owners in the area.

The escalating tensions in the area come after Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas condemned Israel in a speech to the UN General Assembly for its ongoing military occupation of East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

PALESTINIANS Are Always The Aggressors, so when they are killed in self-defense, they SHOULD HAVE NO WORLD SYMPATHY.

The Palestinian Authority has for years paid out - and still pays out - hundreds of thousands of shekels to individual Palestinian terrorists sentenced in Israel to long jail sentences for multiple murders, according to official PA documents.

Among them are Hamas operatives responsible for deadly attacks in Israel, such as Hamas bomb maker Abdullah Barghouti, who is serving a 67 life sentences (for 67 murders). Abdullah Barghouti has so far received 4 million shekels (around $1 million).

Every rank-and-file terrorist is awarded a stipend of up to 10,000 shekels per month while behind bars. Under the reign of Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian Authority, therefore, the rewards of terror are substantial and long-lasting.

Terrorist or as Israel call it a "terror attack" is been used, reused and abused. How can they label a Palestinian stabbing or killing the enemy as a terror attack. They are occupied by Israel and they are resisting the Israeli forces which whatever means they have.

Lies, Palestinians receive NO compensation what so ever. The PA is in its own debt and can barely pay there employees! These attacks are carried out in response to Israeli aggression

If the stabbing is "alleged", then so is the shooting.

It's easy to label it terrorism, Joe. Just pretend that a native American comes up with an 8 inch knife and sticks it in your gut and then slices your neck open. You occupied their lands and the native is resisting you. You're telling us it's legal for them to kill you, right?

@Tobias: Palestinians are not the ones occupying your eastern European ghettoes oppressing you there for 67 years not allowing the right of return of the world's largest/longest suffering refugee population. I can go on for days but how dare the victims become the aggressors!

Are you sure your publication is from the Palestinian territories? If I wanted to see zionist propaganda and its contrary to all mind sick psyche trolls I would go to one of their fascist "publications" of which there are many.

Interesting how Palestinian "acts" (stabbings) were alleged, while Israeli "actions" were... NOT.

Whether said individual instigated an attack should be alleged, since criminal accusations elicits proof.
HOWEVER, verifying a stabbing injury should be as doable as verifying a gunshot.

@ Brian Cohen / Israel It is not only legal but their duty to fight their occupier. Native Indians or Palestinians. Then the Indians fought with arrows and they lost against repeating rifles. Obviously the Palestinians going to lose the battle, but as usual Israel will lose the war.
