BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Clashes broke out on Friday afternoon between Palestinians and Israeli forces near the northern entrance of Bethlehem.

Israeli forces fired tear gas and rubber-coated bullets at protesters who threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at soldiers stationed in the Israeli watchtower connected to the separation wall.

Several Palestinians suffered from tear gas inhalation.

Clashes between locals and Israeli military forces stationed in the area are common and often result in injury or death of Palestinians.

Last week, 13-year-old Palestinian Ahmad al-Muti was hit by Israeli forces in the leg with a "dum-dum" bullet -- a bullet that expands inside the body on impact -- and is currently facing potential amputation.

Clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces have spread across the occupied West Bank since two Israelis were killed in a shooting Thursday night.

The deaths sparked widespread attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians and their property Friday.
