Two Israeli settlers killed in drive-by shooting near Nablus

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Two Israeli settlers were shot and killed in a drive-by shooting between the illegal Israeli settlements of Itamar and Elon Moreh near Nablus in the northern West Bank on Thursday evening, an Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an.

Israel's army said several shots were fired at the settlers' car from a passing vehicle, which fled to a nearby Palestinian village following the shooting.

Four children aged nine, seven, four, and four months were lightly wounded and taken to hospital, Israeli media and security sources said. The two dead were the children's mother and father.

Israeli security forces flooded the area where the incident occurred, an AFP journalist said.

Tensions between Israeli settlers and Palestinians have been running high in recent weeks, as right-wing groups have increasingly urged their supporters to visit the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem, which has sparked clashes and spurred political debates around what Palestinians see as a challenge to the status quo in Israeli policies concerning the holy site.

Israeli authorities imposed severe restrictions on Palestinian entry to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound for the fourth day in a row on Wednesday, while Israelis entered the compound under armed police escort.

The United Nation's Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) documented fourteen Palestinian attacks which resulted in injury to settlers or damage to their property between Sept. 15 -28, marking the highest weekly average of such attacks since February.

Palestinians have been responsible for the deaths of four Israelis within the occupied Palestinian territories this year, according to OCHA documentation, while at least 24 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank.

The already contentious relationship between Palestinians and Israeli settlers has been particularly strained in Nablus in recent months, as Israeli settlers set fire to a house on July 30 in Duma, a small village within the district, burning a toddler alive, and killing the mother and father of the family.

The only remaining survivor of the attack is the family's 4-year-old son, Ahmad Dawabsha.

Palestinians prove again they are war criminals and terrorists. There is no "right" to shoot people and kill them. Palestinians continue to preach violence and live violence. Their society is violent and if you look around the middle east, it looks like the Palestinians are next to be taken by Daesh.

It is a joke that Israel is supposed to make peace with people who only know violence. Jews and Muslims should be best of friends but its rediculous to think Israel will commit suicide and allow such violence to go unanswered. Israel will continue to exist, the question is, will you?

Very sad to hear of anyone getting murdered, no matter whether it is two illegal European colonists, or 500 plus children murdered by the same illegal colonists in Gaza just over a year ago.

Israelis kill Palestinians every day. They demolish their homes and orchards, drive them out, and build illegal settlements for the "Master Race". Then when THEY are attacked, they go into the victim mode.

The only solution is a one-state solution where Christians, Jews and Muslims are all equal.

How on earth can the Palestinians be judged as terrorists and war criminals when we can all see who the real war criminals are....and for a country that has elected two former terrorist leaders as prime ministers its extremely disingenuous to point the finger at anyone and call them terrorist.

Why is it that you are only commenting on Palestinians as being the violent side? Have you forgotten how many children Israel murders and arrests daily? Oh what about all those psycho Israeli settlers who burn babies while they sleep? Stop making it one sided please. #WakeUpWorld #FreePalestine

Two interesting posts. Brian, who seems not to grasp the concept of blowback and ben Zalman who appears to be the kind of brainwashed, hysterical America Jew who thinks Palestinian violence is entirely unprovoked, motivated by baseless hatred and the ultimate dream that Israel will cease to exist (even with a Purim-style threat that Palestinians who plot Israel's annihilation may bring about their own.)

Why are the settlers doing in the occupied West Bank anyway? They kill Palestinians, steal their lands and claim it is theirs. It is better for the rest of the Jewish squatters to leave and not be stupid to meet the same fate.
