NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Three Palestinians suffered smoke inhalation after a house in the southern Nablus village of Duma was set on fire by unidentified assailants early Monday, Palestinian security sources said.

Security officials said that unidentified assailants on Monday threw flammable material on the house in Duma's center before setting it alight.

The sources said that there was no evidence suggesting that Israeli settlers had carried out the attack, although they said they could not rule out the possibility.

Palestinian Civil Defense crews arrived at the scene and were able to put out the fire. The house belongs to Munawer Rashin Suleiman Dawabsha.

Security sources said that Palestinian police had opened an investigation into the incident, but it was too early to identify the assailants.

Last month, Israeli settlers carried out an arson attack on a home in Duma that killed an 18-month-old toddler, Ali Dawabsha, and his father, Saad.

The attack brought settler violence under international scrutiny.

Following the incident, Israeli human rights group B'Tselem said that the deadly attack had been "only a matter of time," pointing to a culture of impunity for Israeli settlers.
