Israeli forces shoot, injure Palestinian teen near Gaza border

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli troops shot and injured a Palestinian teenager east of Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip on Friday night, local sources told Ma'an.

The boy, identified as 14-year-old Mahir Shatat, was hit by a live fire in his cheek and was taken to a local hospital.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an that Shatat was shot because he approached the border fence separating Gaza from Israeli-controlled territories.

Separately, Israeli forces opened fire Saturday morning on Palestinian farmers tending to their lands near the eastern border of the coastal enclave.

No casualties were reported.
