HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces shot and killed a 53-year-old Palestinian and injured his two sons during an arrest raid in the town of Beit Ummar in northern Hebron early Thursday, witnesses said.

Falah Hammad Abu Maria is the 17th Palestinian to be killed by Israeli forces this year, three of whom have been killed since the beginning of this month.

A spokesperson for a local popular committee, Muhammad Ayyad Awad, told Ma'an that Israeli forces and undercover forces had raided Falah’s house and opened live fire inside the home.

Witnesses said the forces shot and injured his son Muhammad, 22, with two live bullets in the pelvis.

When Falah attempted to aid his injured son, Israeli forces shot Falah twice in the chest, witnesses said.

Falah was taken to the al-Ahli Hospital in Hebron but was pronounced dead shortly after.

Muhammad is currently undergoing surgery and is in stable condition.

Falah’s other son, Ahmad, 25, was also reportedly injured with bullet shrapnel in the chest. He was taken to the al-Ahli Hospital as well where his condition was reported as stable.

An Israeli army spokesperson said the incident happened in an overnight operation to arrest unidentified suspects. The spokesperson claimed a "violent mob" attacked Israeli forces, injuring one Israeli soldier with a rock.

Israeli forces responded with live fire aimed at "lower extremities," injuring one man, the spokesperson said.

According to the army spokesperson, when Israeli forces were going to leave the home of the first incident they were "attacked" again, and again opened fire, killing one man.

The spokesperson was unable to identify the killed man.

Falah's death comes amid routine arrest raids throughout the West Bank by Israeli forces. During Thursday's raid in Beit Ummar that lead to his death, Israeli forcesdetained former prisoner Hammad Ahmad Hammad Abu Maria, 23.

On Sunday, a home belonging to a member of the Abu Maria family in Beit Ummar was issued a stop-work order on a nearly-finished construction.

The following day Israeli forces delivered a notice to the homes owner Khalil, 28, summoning him to meet with Israeli intelligence in the Etzion military camp in northern Beit Ummar.

Ma'an could not confirm whether the incidents were related.

On Wednesday near the northern West Bank city of Jenin, troops shot dead Mohammed Alawneh, 22, in clashes that followed raids and searches at several houses in the village of Birqin.

Alawneh was shot in the chest and died shortly after arriving at hospital in Jenin, a Palestinian medical source said.

Islamic State affiliates in Sinai and Libya have banded together with the Palestinian Hamas rulers of the Gaza Strip for the shared goals of capturing northern Sinai from the Egyptian army and staging an assassination coup against President Abdel-Fatteh El-Sisi,

The soldiers must have felt 'threatened', otherwise they have no case and the notion 'murder' is appropriate.

@Shikuko: you are wrong IS attacks Hamas. See f.i. info on Ma'an News This is West Bank news, not Gaza! Furthermore: watch youtube video's of testimonies from IOF soldiers ( B'tselem) on how IOF soldiers behave. Until now they have no idea where "lower extremities" seem to be. Seems to be the heart.

The Israeli's need to stop the bogus arrest orders against people in their homes and then these unnecessary deaths would stop. Dial it back a little and let people breathe. No excuses, this is terrorism.

And that string of violence by the Israel will increase as long as Israel will not be allow to strike Iran. Israel is angry about the deal, but their hands are tied unless the US give them the green light, but they wont. So Israel will show their frustration on the Palestinians instead.
