GAZA CITY (Ma’an) – Israeli forces on Friday afternoon detained a young Palestinian man from the Gaza Strip as he tried to pass through Erez crossing near Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza strip.

Ibrahim al-Shaer, 20, was attempting to travel to the West Bank for medical treatment when Israeli forces stopped him and took him into custody, Palestinian sources and family relatives told Ma’an.

He was taken to an unknown destination.

An Israeli army spokesperson was not able to comment on the detention.

Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip regularly attempt to travel outside of the blockaded coastal enclave for medical treatment.

Seventeen hospitals, 56 primary healthcare facilities and 45 ambulances were damaged or destroyed by Israeli strikes during the 50-day war between Israel and Hamas last summer, according to humanitarian group Medical Aid for Palestinians.

Gazans should be stopped crossing into Israel, which they attack, and stopped crossing into Egypt, which they attack, which would leave them no where to go, unless they accept real peace !!

Israel better have a good explanation for detaining him, which you probably wont get anyhow. Israel allow hundreds of wounded Syrians that technically are at war with them be treated in their hospitals. A sweet and sour relationship.

@Joe: Does the USA give any explanation (let alone a good one) for the thousands upon thousands of people they detain? No country does. You're comments are extremely biased. Especially the second. Saving Syrian lives amidst civil war and massacres, is codemnable now?

@ hi / usa In the US they do detain someone for 72 hours before they been charged with any crime. After 72 hours they usualy release or charge. In Israel they can stay in Jail for years without been charged. No I am not bias, I just have my own preferences.

the USA is imperfect for sure but it is so much more humane than israel. There is no comparison between israel and the USA. USA is based on equal rights for all religions, nationalities and race. israel gives preferential treatment to Jews. israle is a loser.
