Israeli commander kills Palestinian teenager near Ramallah

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A senior Israeli commander shot dead a Palestinian teenager in the West Bank Fridayafter he threw stones at his patrol, medics and Israeli officials said.

Muhammad Hani al-Kasbah,17, was killed by two bullets after allegedly throwing stones at an Israeli military vehicle close to the Qalandiya checkpoint, south of Ramallah, medics told Ma'an.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an that Israeli forces were carrying out routine activity when a suspect approached the military vehicle and started throwing rocks, damaging the vehicle.

After calling the suspect to halt and firing warning shots into the air, the forces opened fire at al-Kasbah when he approached them from close range, the spokesperson added.

Israeli news site Haaretz reported that a senior Israeli Brigade Commander exited his vehicle and fired at a group of Palestinians throwing stones, hitting al-Kasbah twice in the upper body.

Israeli media identified the Israeli commander as Israel Shomer.

The Palestinian teenager had left his homeearly that morning to reach the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and eyewitnesses say he was attempting to climb the separation wall when he was shot.

An Israeli officer in the Central Command told Haaretz that the commander "did what he had to do due to threat to his life."

Al-Kasbah was shot at around 7.30 a.m. and fell to the ground before a group of Palestinians took him to hospital in Ramallah.

Hundreds of Palestinians from the Qalandiya refugee camp gathered at the Palestine Medical Center to mourn his death.

Al-Kasbah's two brothers, Yasser and Samer, were killed by Israeli forces in the Qalandiya refugee camp in May 2002.

In the hours following the killing, Palestinians attempting to cross the checkpoint into Jerusalem to pray at the Al-Aqsa Mosque faced heavy backups as increased numbers of Israeli forces were deployed at the checkpoint.

Al-Kasbah was the second Palestinian to be killed by Israeli forces in the last week, after forces shot dead a Palestinian man last Friday when he opened fire at soldiers at the Beqaot checkpoint in the Jordan Valley.

A primary crossing into Jerusalem for Palestinians travelling from the occupied West Bank hub of Ramallah, the Qalandiya checkpoint is the site of frequent tensions between Israeli forces and Palestinians.

Friday's shooting comes as Israeli authorities set new restrictions earlier this week for Palestinian entry into Jerusalem, allegedly in response to attacks targeting Israeli military and settlers, revoking the entry permits of hundreds set to travel during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

When the incident occurred and the rocks were hurled rocks at military vehicles, and when a rock smashed through the windshield of his jeep, the Arab picked on the wrong colonel.

- Using Suicide-Bombs, Launching Rockets, Shooting Drivers,
Or Throwing Stones Are Not Palestinian Rights, But
- Responding To These Threats Is An Israeli Right !!

ATTACKING SOLDIERS, and then ignoring their warnings to stop,
IS VERY FOOLISH, and thus the dead young man is responsible
for what happened, just as if he jumped off a cliff to his death !!

"Good decisions are based on experience. Experience is frequently based on bad decisions." Clearly he made a very bad decision. Perhaps other will learn from his mistake(s).

You are correct. The Officer made a bad decision. He exhibited conduct unbecoming of an Officer. It is a cowardly act to gun down an unarmed person. He can learn best from his mistake by being discharged, His conduct reflects badly on the IDF.

Inbound, it started with the young man. Security is about removing threats. The young man threw rocks and precipitated a response that eliminated him as a threat. No threat, no response. His fault.

OscarP and Arnold: Hani al-Kasbah,17, was throwing rocks at an occupation military vehicle in the village where he was born and raised.
Hani did not harm anyone, or went out of his way to do so. He expressed his anger at an ongoing military occupation only after the occupiers showed up at his home.

Not only is Israel the only first world state where shooting kids who throw stones is considered reasonable, its supporters actually applaud the behavior. If anyone doubts Israel is the quintessence of evil, my question is: how much evidence do you need?

If my two brothers had been killed by an occupying force then I sure would be throwing rocks or what ever I could find at the killers of my family. May Allah have mercy on that young mans' soul and may His vengance against the murderers be swift.
