Gaza ministry deploys Hamas security forces at Egypt border

July 1, 2015 7:07 P.M. (Updated: July 2, 2015 11:08 A.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Ministry of Interior in the Gaza Strip deployed forces along the border with Egypt on Wednesday after attacks in Sinai by militants affiliated with the Islamic State reportedly killed over 70 people.

Iyad al-Buzem, spokesman of the ministry, said Hamas security forces and patrols were deployed along the southern border to maintain security and stability.

At least 70 people, mostly Egyptian soldiers but also civilians, were killed in attacks and ongoing clashes with Islamic State group (IS) militants in the Sinai Peninsula on Wednesday, officials said.

The attacks, in which car bombs were used, were the most brazen in their scope since militants launched an insurgency in 2013 following the army's overthrow of president Mohamed Morsi.

During the attack, militants took over rooftops and fired rocket-propelled grenades at a police station in Sheikh Zuweid after mining its exits to block reinforcements, an Egyptian police colonel said.

One car bomb attack against a checkpoint south of Sheikh Zuweid killed 15 soldiers."This is war," a senior military officer said. "It's unprecedented, in the number of terrorists involved and the type of weapons they are using."

F-16 jets responded by striking the militants in several locations, said officials and a witness, who added: "There are gunmen on the streets. They have planted mines everywhere."

Explosions were heard and plumes of smoke seen over Sheikh Zuweid from the neighboring Gaza Strip, witnesses there said.

The Islamic State group (S) said its militants surrounded the police station after launching attacks on 15 checkpoints and security installations using suicide car bombers and rockets.

IS said the assault had involved three suicide bombers. "In a blessed raid enabled by God, the lions of the caliphate have simultaneously attacked more than 15 checkpoints belonging to the apostate army," it said in a statement.

In Rafah, on the border with the Gaza Strip, a 19-year-old was killed when a stray rocket hit his home during clashes between the military and militants.Warplanes resumed strikes against IS positions into the early hours of Thursday, security officials said.

Major and seriously problematic blurring of the lines between Gaza government and Hamas.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant moved ominously close to Israel’s borders – not as predicted in the north, but in the south. In Sinai, ISIS followed up on its Ramadan terror with a massive assault on Egyptian forces and reportedly capturing Sheikh Zuwaid near the Israeli and Gazan borders.

I think Hamas will need more than white gaiters, white gloves and bushy beads to fight ISIS on their southern border. Try phoning the Israelis for help, that is if you have a working phone system.

The first to die in ISIS occupied Gaza will be the Christians. The first buildings that will be destroyed will be their Christian apostate churches.

IS insurgents threatened to turn the Gaza Strip into a Middle East fiefdoms, accusing Hamas, the organization that rules the Palestinian territory, of being insufficiently stringent about religious enforcement.

Yet it's funny how they aren't attacking Israel / curiosity
, being the only Jewish state in the region. But for some reason they would rather kill other muslims. Obviously these so called IS are in alliance with Israel and alway have been. Why would they attack Gaza and not the Westbank, because the Westbank consists of Palestinians and ISRAELIS.

Notice how IS has never ONCE attacked Israel despite it's presence in Syria for years now - and has never attacked anyone EXCEPT Muslims and Christians.... and gets treatment in Israeli hospitals. One and one equal two, surely....

Time for the Islamic State to bring in some hard core Islamic values to Gaza. And stop these Gaza folk chilling, sunbathing, swimming and surfing. And get them into the mosques.
