Israeli forces detain Palestinian woman at Erez crossing

May 27, 2015 4:03 P.M. (Updated: May 27, 2015 4:03 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) – Israeli forces on Wednesday detained a Palestinian woman at the Erez crossing on her way back from Israel to the Gaza Strip after visiting relatives living in Israel.

A Gaza-based prisoners' rights group Waed identified the woman as Sana Al-Hafi, 42, and mother of seven from the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.

A spokesperson for the Coordination of Government Affairs in the Territories (COGAT) did not immediatly respond for comment on Al-Hafi's detention.

Palestinian residents in Gaza regularly encounter restrictions on movement in and out of the strip, which has been under full Israeli blockade since 2007.

A March report by the UN warned that the longstanding restrictions on the movement of people and goods to and from Gaza have led to steadily deteriorating living standards for Gaza's 1.8 million people.
