RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- An Israeli court on Monday sentenced Palestinian Legislative Council speaker Aziz Dweik to 12 months in prison and ordered him to pay a fine of 6,000 shekels.

The Ahrar Center for Prisoner Studies said 14 hearings were held for Dweik since his arrest on June 16, 2014, after the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teens near Hebron.

The prosecutor had sought a sentence of 14 months for Dweik.
