Israeli forces injure 2 at Kafr Qaddum weekly march

May 1, 2015 8:45 P.M. (Updated: May 2, 2015 3:18 P.M.)
QALQILIYA (Ma'an) -- Two Palestinians were injured with live rounds and dozens more suffered excessive tear gas inhalation when Israeli forces violently suppressed the weekly protest in Kafr Qaddum village near Qalqiliya.

Coordinator for popular resistance in the village Murad Shtewi said that Inad Ibrahim, 20, and another unidentified man were shot in their legs with live fire.

He said Israeli forces had also fired rubber-coated steel bullets, stun grenades, and tear gas canisters at protesters.

He also said that Israeli forces had assaulted a group of Italian activists with tear gas canisters and stun grenades.

The violent suppression comes just a week after seven more Palestinians were shot in Kaffr Qaddum.

One Palestinians was hit with a live bullet in his foot, while the others were hit with rubber-coated steel bullets. One 24-year-old lost his eye.

Israeli forces routinely suppress weekly marches by violent means.

During protests against the Israeli separation wall and settlement expansion in Kafr Qaddum, Israeli forces regularly erect a checkpoint at the entrance of the village in the morning and declare it a closed military zone in order to prevent the weekly march from taking place.

The internationally recognized Palestinian territories of which the West Bank and East Jerusalem form a part have been occupied by the Israeli military since 1967.

Eventually the Arabs and their Communist sympathisers will "get the message" and resume productive lives.
