Israel to close Kerem Shalom for 4 days

April 21, 2015 10:30 P.M. (Updated: April 21, 2015 10:30 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Israeli authorities will close the Kerem Shalom crossing for four days starting Wednesday, a PA official said.

PA director of crossings Nathmi Muhanna told Ma'an that Israeli forces will close the crossing on Wednesday and Thursday for Jewish holidays, afterwards being closed in Friday and Saturday for the weekend.

Israeli authorities typically heighten security surrounding Israeli independence day, which will fall this Friday.

The crossing is also set to be closed May 23 and 24 for Jewish holiday Lag BaOmer.

Gaza Strip's borders are  controlled and regularly sealed by Israel on three sides and Egypt on one.  Israel has maintained a blockade  since Hamas won elections and took power over the coastal enclave in 2007.
