Palestinian shot in Ramallah clashes dies from injuries

March 25, 2015 6:48 P.M. (Updated: March 27, 2015 10:07 A.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- A 20-year-old Palestinian man died on Wednesday from injuries sustained last week during clashes with Israeli forces in al-Jalazun refugee camp, medics said.

Ali Mahmoud Safi, 20, was shot in the chest by Israeli forces last Wednesday. The bullet exited his body through the back, and the youth was in a serious condition.

At least three other people were hit by live fire during the clashes.

Safi had been in a coma since being hospitalized and was pronounced dead by doctors on Wednesday.

The protest reportedly began after locals gathered in opposition to the construction of a wall between the refugee camp and the nearby Jewish-only settlement of Beit El.

At the time, an Israeli army spokeswoman confirmed the shooting and said forces fired a .22 caliber round toward a "main instigator" of the clashes.
