Israel says more commercial goods being allowed into Gaza

Feb. 26, 2015 7:14 P.M. (Updated: Feb. 26, 2015 7:14 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israel's Coordination and Liaison Administration for Gaza said this week that the commercial movement of goods into the Gaza Strip has improved significantly in 2015.

"Some 550 truckloads have been allowed into Gaza per day," COGAT official Kamil Abu Rukun told reporters at a press conference at the Kerem Shalom crossing on Tuesday.

The rate of trucks entering Gaza is 11 percent higher than 2014, and would be considerably higher if the Palestinian Authority took control of Gaza's crossings, he added.

Yoav Mordechai, Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, said that Israel deals with a PA representative when approving items to enter the territory.
