Israeli forces assault, detain Palestinian teen in Jerusalem

Jan. 19, 2015 6:19 P.M. (Updated: Jan. 20, 2015 6:40 P.M.)
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces on Monday assaulted and detained a Palestinian teenager in the Silwan neighborhood of East Jerusalem on Monday, a local information center said.

The director of the Wadi Hilweh Information Center said in a statement that Israeli forces attacked 16-year-old Muhammad Jamal Ghaith in front of his home.

The forces used the butts of their rifles to hit Ghaith in the head, and then proceeded to search him, the statement said.

They also pepper sprayed Ghaith, his mother, and his uncle.

Ghaith was taken to the Israeli police station at Salah al-Din street and later to the Hadassa hospital for treatment.

He was given stitches for the deep gash in his head where he was attacked, the statement added.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem in 1967 and later annexed it in a move never recognized abroad.
