2 teens die in house fire in Gaza's al-Shati camp

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Two teenagers died and three others were injured late Saturday when a fire broke out in their home in al-Shati refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip, an official said.

Gaza health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra identified the victims as 15-year-old Omar Muhammad al-Habil and his cousin Khalid al-Habil, 17.

Medical sources said three others were injured.

Initial investigations suggest the fire was caused by a candle the family was using due to a power cut, Gaza civil defense forces spokesman Muhammad al-Medana said.

He said firefighters rushed to the area to extinguish the fire.

Power in Gaza homes typically only runs a few hours a day, due to lack of fuel caused in part by the Israeli siege on Gaza with Egyptian support.
