RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Palestinian foreign minister Riyad al-Maliki attended the presidential inauguration for Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday, a statement from his office said.

The foreign minister held meetings in the morning with Turkish officials to discuss bilateral relations and the latest developments with Gaza.

Al-Maliki discussed at lengths different initiatives to end Israel's eight-year blockade on the coastal territory.

Erdogan won Turkey's first direct presidential election earlier in August.
