Baby dies from wounds sustained in Gaza shelling

Aug. 11, 2014 1:05 P.M. (Updated: Aug. 13, 2014 9:37 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A baby girl died on Monday from injuries sustained several days ago in Israeli shelling on the Gaza Strip, medics said.

Maydaa Muhammad Aslan, who was six weeks old, died of her injuries, medical sources said.

A ceasefire went into effect at midnight Sunday, as over four weeks of bloody fighting have killed more than 1,917 Palestinians and 67 people on the Israeli side, most of them soldiers.

The UN says around three quarters of those killed in Gaza were civilians, around a third of them children.
