US hopes for new Gaza ceasefire in 'coming hours'

WASHINGTON (AFP) -- The United States voiced hope Friday that Israel and Hamas would reach a new truce shortly after Palestinian militants ended a 72-hour ceasefire.

"Our hope is that the parties will agree to an extension of the ceasefire in the coming hours," State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf told reporters.
