Israeli army: Soldier killed in central Gaza Strip

July 25, 2014 9:12 A.M. (Updated: July 25, 2014 9:12 A.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- The Israeli military said in a statement that a soldier was killed around noon on Friday after militants fired mortars and anti-tank missiles.

The statement said that the attack was launched from "near" a UNRWA school.

UNRWA is the UN's agency focusing on Palestinian refugees, of which more than half of Gaza's 1.7 million people are considered to be a part.

Palestinian militants have killed 35 soldiers and injured hundreds since the beginning of the ground assault last week.
