July 18, 2014 7:30 A.M. (Updated: July 18, 2014 11:14 P.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Palestinian militants in the northern Gaza Strip killed an Israeli soldier and injured two others early Friday, the Israeli military announced.

The military named the soldier as Eitan Barak, 20, and said he was raised to the rank of staff sergeant following his death.

It said the family of the soldier was notified of his death.

Barak is the first Israeli soldiers to die since Israel commenced hostilities against the Gaza Strip 11 days ago.
