GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israel's air force said Monday that it shot down a drone over southern Israel, a statement said.
"This morning, IAF located and successfully intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle which was identified along the Ashdod coast line.
IAF engaged the vehicle with a "Patriot" surface to air missile. The UAV was destroyed in mid flight."
Hamas' military wing claimed responsibility for the drone, saying that three reconnaissance flights were carried out Monday with multiple unmanned vehicles.
The al-Qassam Brigades said that it was not the first operation of its kind, and that the drones carried out "tasks" above the Israeli Ministry of Defense in Tel Aviv.
The statement highlighted that three types of unmanned Ababil drones have been produced, including reconnaissance drones, combat drones, and drones for suicide missions.
