7 Palestinians killed, 25 injured in airstrike on southern Gaza

July 8, 2014 3:19 P.M. (Updated: July 9, 2014 2:34 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Seven Palestinians were killed and 25 were severely injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a house in the southern Gaza Strip, bringing the death toll from Tuesday's airstrikes to 11, a health ministry spokesman said.

Ashraf al-Qidra told Ma'an seven Palestinians, among them two children under five years of age, were killed in an airstrike on Khan Younis.

Dozens of locals had gathered on the roof of the house after the family received a notice from Israeli authorities that it would be targeted, al-Qidra said.

The house belonged to the al-Kaware family.

Abduallah Kaware, Mohammad Ashour, 13, Riyadh Kaware, Mahmoud Judeh, Bakir Mahmoud Judeh, 22, Ammar Mohammad Judeh, 22, and Hussein Mohammad Kaware, 14, were killed.

Earlier, an Israeli airstrike on a vehicle in Gaza City killed three Palestinians.

Prior to the deaths in Gaza City, the body of Rashad Yassin, from al-Nuseirat refugee camp, was found under the rubble of a destroyed house in central Gaza.

Yassin is reportedly affiliated with Hamas' al-Qassam Brigades.

At least 75 Palestinians have been injured since late Monday in military action dubbed Operation Protective Edge, with Palestinian security sources putting the number of airstrikes at more than 70.

Dozens of sites were targeted in Beit Lahiya, Gaza City, and Khan Younis, with at least 13 injured in Gaza City.

Al-Qidra said 12 injured Palestinians had been taken to Kamal Adwan hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, six to al-Aqsa hospital in central Gaza, and another six to al-Shifa medical center.

Since midnight, militants have fired more than 100 rockets at southern Israel, an army spokeswoman told AFP, saying only around 33 of them had hit Israeli territory.

The al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad movement, took responsibility for launching 60 rockets into Israel on Tuesday.

The al-Nassar Salah al-Din Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, said earlier it had responded to overnight airstrikes by firing five rockets at Eshkol and another 12 rockets elsewhere in southern Israel.

The National Resistance Brigades, the military wing of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said in a statement that it had launched three rockets into southern Israel.
