Israeli police close Aqsa to women, young men

July 8, 2014 1:16 A.M. (Updated: July 8, 2014 9:33 A.M.)
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli police have closed the Al-Aqsa Mosque since the early morning hours Monday to women and young men, witnesses told Ma'an.

Only elderly men are allowed to access the compound and they have to leave their ID cards with Israeli officers stationed at the main gates. In addition, Israeli police have shut down four main gates leading to the compound.

As a result, women and young men demonstrated outside the Council Gate protesting being denied entry.
