Israel army: Settler car hit by gunfire near al-Ram

May 30, 2014 7:45 A.M. (Updated: June 1, 2014 10:57 A.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- The Israeli army said on Friday afternoon that a car belonging to a Jewish settler was hit by "small arms fire" while traveling in the central West Bank.

No injuries were reported as a result of the two shots, which hit the car while it was traveling near the Jewish-only settlement of Geva Benyamin near the Palestinian village of al-Ram, the army said in a statement.

More than 500,000 Israelis live in dozens of Jewish-only settlements built across the Palestinian West Bank, in contravention of international law prohibiting the transfer of civilians from the occupying population onto occupied territory.

Many of these settlements have been built directly on lands confiscated from local Palestinian communities, while roads and other facilities have been built for their exclusive use.
