CAIRO (Ma’an) – An Egyptian border guard soldier was shot dead Wednesday by unidentified gunmen in Rafah in North Sinai Peninsula, Egyptian military source told Ma’an reporter.

"Jihadist gunmen attacked an Egyptian military post in Salah Addin area of Rafah and clashed with the soldiers stationed at the post killing 22-year-old officer Muhammad Aqil after he received two gunshots to the chest," the source said.

"The attackers fled the scene before Egyptian backup forces were deployed in the area and helicopters hovered in the sky."
