Report: Palestinian 'attempts to shoot' settler near Ramallah

April 2, 2014 11:30 A.M. (Updated: April 3, 2014 1:00 P.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian man attempted to shoot an Israeli settler near Ramallah late Tuesday, Israeli media reported.

Hebrew-language news site Walla reported that a Palestinian man tried to shoot a settler in his car, which was parked near the Jabaa intersection.

A technical glitch with his weapon prevented the Palestinian from shooting the settler, and instead the former ran away, the report said.

Israeli police arrived at the scene and searched the area, it added.

More than 500,000 Israeli settlers live in settlements across the West Bank and East Jerusalem, in contravention of international law.

The internationally recognized Palestinian territories of which the West Bank and East Jerusalem form a part have been occupied by the Israeli military since 1967.
