GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A teenager hanged herself on Thursday in the southern Gaza Strip, police said.

Gaza police spokesman Ayub Abu Shaar told Ma'an that the teen's body was found in the al-Amal neighborhood west of Khan Yunis refugee camp.

The 13-year-old, identified only as W.A., was taken to Nasser Hospital where she was pronounced dead, Shaar said.

Police have opened an investigation into the suicide incident.
