Jordan: West Bank, Gaza are Palestinian lands

Jan. 1, 2014 10:23 A.M. (Updated: Jan. 1, 2014 6:51 P.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) – The Jordanian government on Tuesday reaffirmed that it remained committed to its supportive position of the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

The state should be one “enjoying full sovereignty on all Palestinian soil with East Jerusalem as the capital of that state,” according to a government spokesman.

Muhammad al-Mumani was quoted by Jordan’s Arabic-language newspaper al-Ghad as saying that “Jordan reiterates that the whole West Bank and Gaza Strip are Palestinian lands under occupation, and part of the Palestinian state and its national soil.”

Any practices which could prevent a two-state solution and violate international law and international resolutions related to the issue are likely to jeopardize the whole peace process, he said.

The remarks came in response to an Israeli ministerial committee’s approval of a Knesset bill allowing Israel to annex the Jordan Valley.
