Israeli forces, police detain 8 Palestinians across West Bank

Dec. 19, 2013 3:21 P.M. (Updated: Dec. 20, 2013 5:13 P.M.)
HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces and police officers detained eight Palestinians in the West Bank in overnight raids, an army spokesperson told Ma'an.

A spokeswoman for the Israeli army said that Israeli forces detained two Palestinians in Beit Ur al-Fauqa, two in Bethlehem, two in Ein al-Sultan refugee camp, and two elsewhere, without providing further details.

Various local Palestinian sources confirmed the eight arrests.

Locals said Israeli forces raided the town of Kharas in southern Hebron and detained Muhammad Jamal al-Hroub.

Separately, locals told Ma'an that Israeli forces entered Deir Samit, also in southern Hebron, and detained Ayyoub Rizq, taking him to an unknown location.

In the Jordan Valley village of Fasayil, witnesses said Israeli forces detained 62-year-old Muhammad Salih Nawawra and his son Muhammad, both of whom were taken to Huwwara detention center in southern Nablus.

Meanwhile, in Ein al-Sultan refugee camp in Jericho, Israeli forces detained Ibrahim Muhammad Basayta and Udayy Sarafandi, locals said.

The internationally recognized Palestinian territories of which the West Bank and East Jerusalem form a part have been occupied by the Israeli military since 1967.
