Fatah lawmaker attacks senior official Rajoub

Dec. 18, 2013 10:40 P.M. (Updated: Dec. 19, 2013 11:57 P.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Palestinian lawmaker representing Fatah Jamal Abu al-Rub attacked central committee member Jibril Rajoub at Grand Park Hotel in Ramallah on Wednesday, knowledgeable sources said.

Witnesses intervened and prevented Rajoub from fighting back. The sources highlighted that Abu al-Rub attacked Rajoub in retaliation to an attack on him a month ago by one of al-Rajoub’s security guards.

Rajoub was attacked while awaiting the arrival of the Chinese foreign minister.

Speaking to Ma'an via telephone, Palestinian lawmaker Jamal Hweil said he heard about the attack on Rajoub and immediately headed from Jenin to Ramallah to “try and contain the problem.”

A month ago, one of Rajoub’s security guards attacked Abu al-Rub and since then efforts to reconcile between the two have failed.
