Abbas congratulates new Israeli Labor Party chairman on his election

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday phoned newly-elected Labor Party chairman Isaac Herzog to congratulate him on his election.

Herzog was elected as the party chairman after defeating the outgoing chairwoman Shelly Yachimovich in the election which was held on Thursday.

Herzog, a current Knesset member and a former minister, received 58% of the votes in the elections.
