Jerusalem man in coma after settler attack

Nov. 13, 2013 11:11 A.M. (Updated: Nov. 13, 2013 10:12 P.M.)
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian man from the al-Isawiya neighborhood of East Jerusalem was seriously wounded after being attacked by Israeli settlers near the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Tuesday, relatives said.

Kamil Dawood Basila, 48, was walking near the Western Wall on the Moroccan Gate road when two settlers threw a large rock at him from a height, family member Daoud Basila told Ma'an.

Basila was hit on the back and collapsed to the ground. He was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in West Jerusalem where doctors say he sustained fractures to his chest and spine.

He is currently in a coma.

Basila's boss witnessed the attack and immediately called Israeli police, who arrested one of the assailants. The other attacker fled scene.

Basila is married and has six children.
