PA: Freed detainees will not be deported

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- An agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority for the release of veteran Palestinian prisoners will not result in any being deported abroad, a PA official said Sunday.

Prisoners affairs minister Issa Qaraqe said the agreement had nothing to do with reported progress in negotiations with Israel, and he denied reports that the outcome was linked to settlement building.

“We strongly reject exchanging prisoners with the continuation of settlement building,” Qaraqe said, referring to allegations that Israeli announcements of plans to build in the occupied West Bank were linked to the release of detainees.

"This claim is part of the racist incitement by Israeli rightists against President Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas) and the Palestinian leadership," Qaraqe said.
