Egyptian forces arrest 2 suspected of killing troops

Sept. 2, 2013 10:15 P.M. (Updated: Sept. 3, 2013 5:57 P.M.)
EL-ARISH, Egypt (Ma'an) -- Egyptian forces on Monday arrested two militants in Sinai suspected of involvement in the killing of 25 policemen, military sources said.

Militants fired rocket-propelled grenades at two buses carrying police in the Sinai Peninsula on Aug. 19, killing 25 officers. The attack occurred hours after 37 Muslim Brotherhood prisoners died in police custody.

Egyptian army officials told Ma'an that a special military squad raided a "Jihadist stronghold" in the al-Jura neighborhood of Sheikh Zuweid and arrested Adel Hussein, 30, and Muhammad Fawzi, 35.

Hussein and Fawzi confessed to involvement in the Aug. 19 attack, and to firing missiles from Sinai toward Israel, the military officials said.

The men belong to Takfiri groups that encourage attacks against the Egyptian police and army, they added.
