Abbas reiterates support for press freedom

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- President Mahmoud Abbas reiterated on Sunday that freedom of the press is a “holy right” that cannot be violated.

After meeting a delegation from the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, Abbas said that people have the right to “complete” freedom of expression.

Abbas added that the press defends freedom of expression granted by the law.

Palestinian journalist are an important part of his people’s struggle to achieve freedom and an independent state, he said, according to Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Abbas signed a petition supporting the International Campaign for Freedom of Movement for Palestinian Journalists that was initiated by the syndicate.
