Abandoned baby found in Jerusalem

Aug. 24, 2013 7:42 P.M. (Updated: Aug. 25, 2013 1:45 P.M.)
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- A newborn baby was found abandoned in the al-Musrara neighborhood of Jerusalem on Saturday.

A local child found the infant and called his family, who notified the police. The baby had a note attached to her in Arabic which read: "This baby is under your protection now … take good care of her."

The baby, whose name is Asmaa, was in good health and had the umbilical cord wrapped around her belly, indicating she had been born only hours before being found, a spokesman at the Hadassah hospital said.

A bottle of milk and some diapers were found beside the baby.

Israeli police are trying to find the child's parents and have contacted social services.
