US Senate votes to clear way for likely confirmation of Hagel

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- The US Senate cleared the way on Tuesday for the likely confirmation of Chuck Hagel as President Barack Obama's new secretary of defense.

The final confirmation vote was likely later on Tuesday.

More than 15 Republicans voted with Democrats to end a delay that some Republicans had staged.
