Concern for Palestinian cartoonist in Israeli jail

Feb. 27, 2013 5:44 P.M. (Updated: Feb. 27, 2013 5:44 P.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Palestinian media rights advocates expressed concern Tuesday for the life of Palestinian cartoonist Mohamed Fayeq Sabaana and demanded his release.

Israeli forces detained Sabaana, 34, on Feb. 16 while he was returning from Jordan.

Sabaana was transferred to prison on Monday and has not been allowed visits from his family or legal representative since he was detained, according to Mada, a media watchdog in Ramallah.

According to the cartoonist's brother, Adel Sabaana, Fayeq's family has been given no information on his brother's status.

“We think he was detained for his cartoon drawings, he always traveled freely and (has) never been detained,” Adel said in a statement distributed by Mada.
