Hamas govt releases 50 prisoners, ministry says

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Hamas government in Gaza released 50 prisoners on Wednesday, a statement from the interior ministry said.

The prisoners had all served at least two-thirds of their sentence in rehabilitation centers and were released in a ceremony attended by prison officials.

During the release ceremony, prisoners promised not to commit further crimes.

The Gaza interior ministry also announced that it would release a further 93 prisoners who are serving their sentence in rehabilitation centers.
