Palestinians 'run roadblock', injured by Israeli police fire

Feb. 14, 2013 6:15 P.M. (Updated: Feb. 16, 2013 7:30 P.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Two Palestinians were hurt by Israeli police fire after they drove through a roadblock in the northern West Bank on Sunday, Israeli police said.

Locals identified one of the wounded as Yasser Mohammed Nimer Abu Hamed, who was shot in the back while driving the car by the Israeli settlement Qarne Shomron, near Qalqiliya.

Police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld said one Palestinian was moderately wounded and another lightly hurt, and both were evacuated from the scene. Israeli news site Ynet said they were being treated in a hospital in Israel's Kfar Saba.

Rosenfeld said the pair failed to stop their vehicle at a police roadblock, and "almost ran over two police officers." The officers fired warning shots towards the car, he said, noting that police were investigating the incident.
