Gaza factions rally in solidarity with prisoners

Feb. 1, 2013 4:15 P.M. (Updated: Feb. 6, 2013 2:19 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Several factions held a joint rally Friday in the northern Gaza Strip in solidarity with Palestinians in Israeli jails.

After noon prayers, demonstrators marched from al-Awda Mosque in Jabaliya, chanting slogans denouncing the Israeli Prison Service and urging Arab and international support to end the suffering of political prisoners.

Mustafa al-Duqs, a senior member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, spoke at the rally and urged resistance groups to use any means possible to free all prisoners.

Prisoners are the key symbol of the conflict at this stage, al-Duqs said, adding that detainees on hunger strike were paying a toll to defend Palestinians' homeland and freedom.

A similar rally is planned Friday at the central farmers market in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza.
