More than 1,000 leave Gaza for Mecca pilgrimage

EL-ARISH, Egypt (Ma’an) -- Over one thousand Palestinian pilgrims have crossed into Egypt to made a pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia in recent days, an Egyptian official said on Thursday.

The group of 1,195 pilgrims will fly from Sinai's el-Arish city to Saudi Arabia for the Umrah pilgrimage, Egyptian director at Rafah crossing Maj. Gen. Sami al-Mitwali said.

He also noted that 63 trucks of Qatari-donated construction material entered Gaza from Egypt on Wednesday.
