Palestinian 'shot in stomach by soldiers' south of Hebron

Dec. 2, 2012 1:21 P.M. (Updated: Dec. 3, 2012 6:39 P.M.)
HEBRON (Ma’an) -- A Palestinian man was shot in the stomach during clashes south of Hebron on Saturday night, locals told Ma'an.

A military patrol entered the town of Dura, sparking clashes with local youth, they said.

Israeli forces used tear gas and live fire against residents, according to witnesses.

Shadi Salameh al-Masharqa, 22, was hit by a live bullet in his abdomen and underwent surgery in Hebron government hospital, locals said.

An Israeli military statement said "a group of Palestinians gathered around soldiers and began hurling rocks at them and climbed on their vehicles," during a routine patrol.

"The soldiers sensed an immediate threat to their lives and responded with warning shots."
