GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Factions in Gaza met Friday evening and urged PLO leaders to convene as the Palestinian death toll reached 28 in the enclave.

In the second factional meeting since Israel began its offensive Wednesday, Palestinian parties in Gaza also expressed pride in the resistance of militant groups against Israeli attacks.

Armed groups have fired hundreds of rockets at Israel since Wednesday. Several projectiles have reached Tel Aviv and a rocket landed in a settlement bloc south of Jerusalem on Friday evening.

Palestinian People's Party member Walid al-Awad applauded the visit of Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Kandil and urged Arab states to intervene in the Israeli assault.

Earlier Friday, PPP member Bassam al-Salhi called for a meeting of PLO members, executive council members and factions to implement national reconciliation.

Al-Salhi told Ma'an that Palestinians must unite to face Israeli aggression, whether in the Gaza Strip or the West Bank.
