Woman dies after sucked into swimming pool drain

Sept. 20, 2012 5:53 P.M. (Updated: Sept. 21, 2012 1:24 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A woman died on Thursday after being sucked into a swimming pool drain in Gaza City.

Sahar al-Yaziji, 25, was pulled into the drain during a swimming lesson at a club in Gaza City.

Her sister Reem, who was also in the pool, told Ma'an that she tried to rescue Sahar but failed, noting that both were still learning to swim.

Reem said the swimming teacher was not at the pool when the accident happened, adding that it was three men, and not the teacher, who pulled Sahar's body out.

The victim's sister added that Sahar was dead when she was retrieved from the pool, disputing the swimming club's account that the 25-year-old died after being pulled from the water.

The family held the swimming club responsible for Sahar's death and accused its trainers of negligence.
