Hamas ministry closes 7 car companies for tax evasion

Sept. 11, 2012 9:25 A.M. (Updated: Sept. 12, 2012 10:36 A.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Hamas Ministry of Transportation shut down seven car companies on Monday for failing to pay taxes, a businessman said.

General coordinator of car importers Majid al-Shawa told Ma'an that the ministry withheld licenses for seven private car dealers after they violated tax laws.

The measures represent an escalation in the issue of taxes between car dealers and the Hamas-run Gaza government, al-Shawa said.
