Rafah crossing closed Saturday

Jan. 7, 2012 12:19 P.M. (Updated: Jan. 7, 2012 10:24 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Rafah crossing on Gaza's border with Egypt closed on Saturday for Orthodox Christmas, the Interior Ministry in Gaza said.

The terminal will reopen Sunday, the ministry said in a statement.

The Rafah crossing closes on all Egyptian public holidays in an agreement between the governments in Gaza and Cairo.

Due to Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip, the terminal is the only open border for residents of the enclave, although travel through the crossing is restricted.
