GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- Palestinian Christians from the Gaza Strip started on Thursday to leave Gaza on their way to Bethlehem to participate in the Christmas celebrations.

Maher Sabha, director of the crossings in Hamas' interior ministry, said 145 Christians left Gaza through the Erez crossing going to the West Bank for Christmas.

Israeli authorities gave 550 Palestinian Christians from Gaza special permits to enter the West Bank for the holidays. However, thousands of other Christians were not eligible to apply for the permit which is subject to age restrictions.
